ULSTER COUNTRYWOMAN MAGAZINE

The Federation produces its own in-house magazine the 'Ulster Countrywoman' each month between September and June.  It is one of the main lines of communication between members, with a distribution of around 5,000 copies per month.  Many of the magazines purchased are circulated to friends and are read by several people. Copies are sent around the world to members and friends as far away as Australia and Canada; with a few purchased by non-WI members.

Featured in this month's magazine:

Fourtowns WI's 65th Anniversary
Phyllis Gailey Literary Competition

Area Meetings

The Ulster Countrywoman is a unique mix of features, creative craft and cookery, competitions, informative articles, fiction, quirky stories and, of course, news covering the wide range of WI activities across the province.

Regular features in the magazine include HQ notices, Institute News, Book Review, What’s Cookin’, Health Matters, In the Garden and International News together with a variety of articles reflecting the interests of our members and their community.

Members are encouraged to send in short articles, poems and photographs.   Competitions to encourage participation are well supported, there is the monthly competition for readers, an annual literary competition, a poetry competition and the most attractive Ulster Countrywoman cover over the calendar year using a photograph taken by a member.

It's great value at only 85p!  The magazine is also available on tape, free of charge, for members with impaired vision.

The magazine subscription for non-members is £13 a year, including P&P.  Please contact Federation Headquarters (
