Campaigns

Since its formation the Federation of Women’s Institutes has campaigned on issues that matter to women and their communities.  Our campaigns are not limited to items of purely local interest but extend to international issues.

 Our current campaigning priorities are:

  • That Water Service takes into account the ability of vulnerable groups to pay when setting the planned water charges

  • Hospital Cleanliness & MRSA

  • To achieve a reduction in the use of plastic carrier bags

  • The abolition of single supplements on hotel accommodation

  • To promote the safety of our school children travelling on buses by installing seat belts on all bus seats

  • To reverse the decline in rural services

  • To minimise the negative impact of free trade on the world’s poorest people

  • To educate young people to the dangers involved in the practice of inhaling solvents - otherwise know as glue sniffing

  • To improve the safety of cyclists by the compulsory wearing of safety helmets

  • To introduce concessionary television licences for registered blind and deaf users

  • To restrict the use of fireworks to the Halloween period
