Annalong Women’s Institute – January 2017 news

The first meeting of the New Year was held on January 12th ’17 in the local Community Hall on a bitterly cold night. President Sylvia Newell welcomed all those who had braved the elements   to attend and wished all present a Happy & Healthy New Year. We had much pleasure in welcoming a new member Karen Mc Kee  As it was “Member’s Night the W.I. Quiz was first on the agenda and a team from Annalong will go forward to the Quoile Area Quiz in Ballynahinch. Then our brains were further tested with “The Rosemary Nelson Quiz” arranged by Evelyn Trimble. The winner of this quiz will be revealed at the April Dinner The business of the meeting followed. Sympathy was conveyed to Patricia Holman on the recent death of her mother -in -law. Good wishes were extended to Rhoda Newell presently having a hospital procedure. Fellow member Charlotte Campbell received a letter of thanks from the Royal Victoria Hospital thanking her for the collection of premature babies hats which she had knitted for this worthy cause following a request for these in The Ulster Country Woman’s Magazine An invitation was received from Rathfriland W. I. to an “Irish Night “ on March 1st   Dates and courses available for “An Grianan” Residential were announced. Names and Menu Choices were taken for Anniversary Dinner in April.

Iris Gordon was warmly thanked for organizing the outing to the Pantomine in The Grand Opera House which was a very enjoyable evening. A delicious supper was served by Tea Hostesses Ella Cooper, Iris Gordon Elizabeth Hudson & Liz Mc Kee. A very noisy but enjoyable “Beetle Drive concluded a very busy meeting.
