Abercorn Area Bowled Over With Success!

WI ladies from nineteen Areas took part in the WI Bowls Finals at Killymurris Presbyterian Church on Saturday 7th March 2015. Roberta Hall, Chairman of the Magazine & Leisure Sub-Committee, opened the proceedings with a warm welcome to all the competitors. The competition started with some well-fought matches and eight teams, namely Lower Bann, Knockagh, Quoile, Rowallane, Riada, Abercorn, Roe Valley and Londonderry, who were left to battle for the winners of the quarter-finals.  The teams that got through to the semi-finals were Lower Bann versus Londonderry, and Quoile versus Abercorn. Competition was tough, resulting in Lower Bann and Abercorn going through to the final round. An exhausting final was played between Eva Mc Clements (Lower Bann) and Georgina Walker (Abercorn). Abercorn emerged victorious as Lower Bann conceded sixteen to seven points. Thanks are expressed to Ivan the umpire who made the proceedings go smoothly and to Killymurris for the use of their excellent facilities. Not to be forgotten are the ladies of Cullybackey WI who provided generous and delicious catering and their hard work is most appreciated. Special thanks also, of course, to all of the competitors who entered the competition and played so valiantly, they are a credit to their Institutes. We look forward to next year’s competition and congratulations once again to the winner of 2015, ‘WI Bowler of the Year’, Georgina Walker of Baronscourt WI.
