Festival of the Spoken Word 2016
The Festival of the Spoken Word was held on Saturday 22nd October 2016 in St Lurach’s Parish Church Hall, Maghera. Chairman of the Arts Sub-Committee Carole Baird welcomed everyone and introduced the adjudicator Mrs Shelagh O’Brien. The ladies of Maghera WI provided tea and scones in the morning and a delicious lunch consisting of hearty soup. Federation Chairman Elizabeth Warden presented the awards to the talents winners and Margaret Broome proposed a comprehensive Vote of Thanks on behalf of the Arts Sub-Committee. It was a very entertaining day, a wonderful showcase of the talent in the WI. The afternoon closed traditionally with the singing of A Countrywoman’s Song.
