WI Golfer Of The Year 2016

On what was quite possibly the hottest day of the year so far, with temperatures around 26°C, and in complete contrast to the weather at last year’s tournament, thirty-three ladies travelled to Galgorm Castle Golf Club to compete in the WI’s annual ‘Golfer of the Year’ Competition.

On arrival the competitors enjoyed a welcoming cuppa and delicious scones, with the first ladies making their way to the tee box at 10am. A very helpful club member acted as starter and also maned the refreshment stop, making sure the ice was on hand when the ladies reached the ninth hole, which on such a hot day was very welcoming.

Just after four hours, the first of the WI ladies returned to the clubhouse with the remaining competitors filtering in over the next couple of hours. On their return all the ladies were served a delicious meals prepared by the club’s restaurant staff.

Magazine & Leisure Sub-Committee Chairman, Ann McCurdy welcomed everyone, especially Federation Chairman Elizabeth Warden who had travelled down to join the ladies for this important event. Elizabeth thanked all the ladies for taking part and Ann handed the announcement of the results over to Linda Peak, a member of the Committee who had organised the event. Elizabeth thanked all the ladies for taking part and presented the awards as follows:
