Saintfield WI member ✨Therese Mageean’s✨ beautiful winning artwork has now been brought to life as a modern ladies fashion scarf – and it’s stunning!
Therese was the winner of the Arts Sub-Committee’s recent creative competition to ‘Design a WI Scarf!’
Here is Therese’s design, transformed into a modern ladies fashion scarf by design studio Pixalili and modelled here by the lovely Lesley (Arts Sub-Committee Chairman).

Lesley was delighted with how the scarf turned out and commented, “Last year we ran a new Federation Competition and  challenged our members to come up with a design for an original and fashionable Federation scarf. The competition brief stated that the design must incorporate the WI farm gate and the flax flower that is synonymous with Northern Ireland. However, these were both to be incorporated subtly into the design.  Our winning member, Therese Mageean from Saintfield WI has come up with a beautiful interpretation of ‘A Countrywoman’s Song’ in a watercolour landscape. She has depicted The Mountains of Mourne, a cottage, and the farm gate, all overlaid with the image of the flax flower and washed in the soft blues and pink of an evening sky.”

The scarves cost £15.00 each and will be available to purchase directly from WI Headquarters at the end of this month. They will also go on sale at the AGM in the Europa Hotel on 31st March, and at Balmoral Show, which runs from 11th -14th May.

Aware of sustainable fashion, the Donegal based design and print company Pixalili printed Therese’s design on to a soft, eco-friendly cotton muslin to produce a lovely, lightweight, wraparound scarf that can be worn in a variety of ways.

How lovely to have this stunning scarf released for 2022, the year that the Federation celebrates its 90th Anniversary!
Wear your scarf with pride and showcase the Women’s Institute to everyone you meet!
