Killinchy’s 60th Anniversary 2016

Our President, Nan Fulton welcomed Federation Chairman, Elizabeth Warden, Quoile Executive member, Edwina Marr, Quoile past Presidents and members.

Pamela Shanks said Grace and before a delightful dinner was served, guests received an engraved pen.

Elizabeth Warden was delighted to bring greetings as the first Chairman from Ards Peninsula Area and advised us, “to do what we can in our next 10 years to keep our wonderful organisation alive and kicking!”

Elizabeth congratulated our President, Secretary and committee for all the planning and preparation to make the evening a success before presenting Killinchy with an engraved vase.

Edwina Marr, who has enjoyed her first year as an Executive member, congratulated us for the beautiful meal and wished Killinchy good luck for future years.

Secretary, Shirley Shanks thanked Elizabeth for her kind words and for the beautiful gift before reading cards of congratulations.

The following brief history of Killinchy W.I. was read by Elizabeth Thomson;

Killinchy W.I. was formed on 20th February 1956 with a public meeting held in the Northern Bank House, Subsequently on 24th February the first meeting was held in the Bishop Hall, Non Subscribing Church and the President elected was Mrs Kaye Agnew.

Membership was 92, increasing to 156 and a waiting list!

A link was established with Killinchy CWA, Canterbury, New Zealand around 1973.

The age span of Killinchy W.I. is over 50 years between the oldest and youngest member, In May 2015 we celebrated honorary member, Grace Morrison’s 100th Birthday!

Five Founder members, three honorary members and 6 past Presidents helped us to have a most enjoyable evening.

Our guest singers were the P.S.N.I. choir who sang a selection of songs from the musicals; this included several solo artists and a few jokes!

A vote of thanks was given by Jenny Clarke who thanked President, Nan for the table floral arrangements, the Secretary, Shirley for the printing of stationery, Social Secretary, Eileen Rooney for her organisation and all committee who helped to make the evening successful.

Eileen then presented Elizabeth and Edwina with a thank you gift.

After singing “The Country Women’s Song “accompanied by the P.S.N.I. choir, the table flower arrangements were balloted and guests enjoyed looking at a history of photographs which were on display.
