The members of Maze Brookfield WI were delighted and honored to accept an invitation from The Right Worshipful the Mayor of Lisburn, Alderman William Leathem to attend a reception in the Civil Centre to mark their 50th Anniversary.

On arrival we were greeted by the Mayor and Mayoress after which we were given a tour of the corridors of power before arriving in the council chamber. There we were joined by Cllr Uel Mackin, councillor for Downshire along with MLA, Mr. Edwin Poots, Minister for Health.  The Mayor gave a most informative and light hearted account of council life, of his very busy schedule and his commitment to his chosen charity, Stepping Stones which supports people with a learning disability or learning difficulty to fulfil their individual work potential. On finishing he explained the different elements making up the City crest which was of great interest to all those attending.

A delicious buffet supper was then served and we proceeded to the Mayor’s parlour to eat, relax and chat. President Dorothy Andrews thanked the Mayor for such an excellent evening presenting him with a donation for his charity. The Mayor responded congratulating the institute on their 50th anniversary and handing over a Lisburn City plaque also gifts to those who attended.
