Quiz Final 2014
The WI Quiz Final took place in Hillsborough Community Hall on Wednesday 28th May. This event was organised by the Magazine and Leisure Sub- Committee and twenty-one Areas took part. Roberta Hall, Chairman of the Committee, welcomed everyone to the event and introduced the Quizmaster Mr Robert McGarrity.
Tension was high as the battle commenced! The first five rounds consisted of four general knowledge rounds and one picture round. Round one proved to be particularly demanding, possibly because few knew the answers, however, after a gruelling five rounds eight Areas were in the lead and went forward to the second half of the Quiz. These Areas were Abercorn, Ards Peninsula, Inver, Knockagh, Quoile, Ranfurly, Slemish and Sperrin.
During the break everyone enjoyed a lovely supper supplied by Ravarnette WI and, thoroughly fuelled, the teams then faced the final countdown. During the final five rounds Abercorn kept the lead and came first in the competition with thirty-one points. Ranfurly came second with twenty-nine points and Inver third with twenty-seven points. Ladies in the winning teams were as follows:
1st – Abercorn – Elsie Loughlin, Brenda Corry and Dr Pat Hale
2nd – Ranfurly – Angela Mc Evoy, Laura Shepherd and Orea McEvoy
3rd – Inver – Anne Chin, Shirley Sinclair and Jackie Crabbe.
Congratulations ladies on such wonderful scores!
Federation Chairman Margaret Collinson presented the trophy and prizes to the worthy winners. She commented on the excellent support that the event had and admitted to a feeling of inadequacy as she tried to answer the questions! We are indebted to Mr Robert McGarrity for devising the questions and making the competition so enjoyable.
