Quiz Final 2017
The Federation Quiz Final took place in Hillsborough Village Centre on Wednesday 17th May 2017, with all twenty-one WI Areas taking part. Magazine and Leisure Sub-Committee Chairman Ann McCurdy welcomed everyone and introduced the quizmaster for the evening, Beverly Weir. After Beverly instructed the team members as to her format and rules for the evening, the competition began.
After five hard fought rounds, three teams – Knockagh, Londonderry and Scrabo – were in joint first position, with Inver one point behind in second. Also qualifying for the final set of questions were Lagan, Lisnagarvey, Ranfurly, Riada and Sperrin who were all two points behind the leaders. During the break, a delicious supper was provided by Hillsborough WI, after which the teams took their seat for the remaining five rounds.
Ranfurly took an early lead, with Lagan catching them after four rounds. The final round would be the decider, and by the narrowest of margins, by just one single point, Ranfurly took the competition from Lagan.
Congratulations to the Ranfurly Area team members (Clare Coyle, Dorothy Gray and Angela McEvoy) and well done to the Lagan Area team (Helen Chapman, Helen McDermott and Phyllis Norrby).
Federation Chairman Elizabeth Warden presented the trophy and prizes to the worthy winners.
