President Annabel Cleland welcomed everyone to the meeting. Our Speaker for the evening was Alison Johnston from AJ Jewellery. Alison told us about how she got into the jewellery business – from a fascination as a small child to working in Skillen’s Jewellers for many years. She started up her own business after have her children and finding it difficult to be away from home. Business is now thriving and includes events such as children’s parties. She brought along a dazzling display of necklaces, bracelets, rings, handbags, purses and scarfs which members could purchase at a discounted rate. She showed us some different ways to wear our scarfs and gave some useful tips on jewellery such as not spraying perfume on after putting on jewellery such as pearls and cleaning tips – soft toothbrush and soap! Jenifer Robinson gave the vote of thanks and presented her with a small gift. We presented our new Federation Vice-Chairman Edwina Marr with a cheque for £160 to go towards Associated Country Women of the World Charity Projects. This money was raised at our Auction in February. Competition for a favourite scarf was won by Jennifer Heenan with Mavis McKinstry and Margaret McCall second and third respectively. Mavis swept the boards when she then won both the Birthday Gift and Ballot!
