I’ve only just logged in to the W I website. We had a really great outing to The Fashion Clinic” at Logan’s of Cloughmills in May, followed by our AGM in June.

The next committee will be meeting soon to plan events for the 2013-14 season.

Wow! I’ve just returned from my first Scrabo Area meeting as a representative of Holywood Institute. Busy, busy, busy.

Three new members joined us in September. One of these girls is interested, after seeing Kirstie Allsopp’s prowess at WI competitions, to make jam and chutney. Are there any classes ?
She brought along a sample of her blackberry, apply and vanilla jam on Friday night and it was judged a hit by our members.

Wow Norma you have been busy. Lovely to see you and Letty at the Scrabo Area Comm. Get your new member to have a look in the W.I.Cookery books for recipes well tried. Secret is not to over boil and use fresh fruit. I am about to do some freezer blackberry jam. Watch this space. Thanks for input. Betty P.S. great work with new members.Keep it up

Our meeting on Friday, 14 March will have an Irish theme. Members are to wear something green. We will be entertained by some local singers and dancers. Competition is for an Irish souvenir.

On 11 April – Hospitality Night – we will entertain some members from other Institutes to an evening of “Smash and Grab” – watch this space. Competition – prettiest parcel.

Congratulations to the Ballyrogan team who won the area quiz on Wednesday. Also well done to Jackie from Ballyrogan WI who won first prize in the audience. Finally thanks for a very entertaining evening ( certainly kept the brain cells working) and the delicious supper.

I attended the Bowls Final in Strean Church Hall. A very well organised event – sorry our girl didn’t win but we were all very proud of her.

Looking forward to the Scrabo Area Spring Meeting on 30 April.

Did you know that the chef representing Northern Ireland in the Great British Menu grew up in Holywood. We’re very proud of Ben Arnold.
