WI At The City Of Belfast Autumn Flower Show 2015

This year The City of Belfast Autumn Flower Show ran from 19th-20th September in Botanic Gardens, Belfast and the WI was once again asked to run a class for members. Over the two days, the weather was fine, crisp and autumnal and the marquee was a hive of activity. The theme for the competition this year was entitled ‘Baby Shower’. Members taking part were tasked with creatively displaying the following items on a card table to suitably reflect the theme: a fabric toy, a knitted pram blanket, three decorated cupcakes, a quiche (max 20cm), a floral arrangement incorporating a baby’s toy (e.g. rattle). We were delighted to have a total of fifteen entries to the competition this year, each of them beautiful and in keeping with the theme. The standard was very high and all of the exhibits were greatly admired by fellow WI ladies and members of the public passing through during the two days of the show. The overall winners in first place were the ladies from Maghaberry WI who were awarded the Northern Bank Trophy. Drumbeg WI were placed second, while Crossgar WI and Seaforde WI tied in joint third place. Congratulations to the winning Institutes and well done to all of those who took the time to put together an entry.
