WI Members Support ACWW’s ‘Women Walk the World’ Campaign 2022!
It’s that time again! Women have been walking worldwide in aid of ACWW, with sponsored walks and events taking place on (or close to) 29th April 2022!
The Associated Country Women of the World (ACWW) held its official international Women Walk the World Day on Monday 29th April 2022. On days in and around this special date, a number of WI Areas and Institutes took part in sponsored walks at various beauty spots across the province to raise money for this very worthwhile cause. ACWW offers support, friendship and practical help to improve the lives of women and their families, empowering communities around the world. Women Walk the World is a global event and the WI ladies were proud to get involved.
Well done to all the WI members who participated and supported this special fundraising event, a selection of whom are featured here:
The ladies of Annalong WI met on Thursday 5th May to take part in their sponsored ACWW walk along the coastal path of Annalong. The weather was cool but dry, and everyone enjoyed the scenery of the mountains and the sea. Afterwards, they rewarded themselves with a cup of tea and something sweet to get revived again.
Some of the ladies of Ballyrashane WI enjoyed refreshments in The Elephant Rock Hotel before supporting ACWW with a bracing walk in Portrush. Over £120 was raised to donate to this worthy cause.

Saturday morning, 30th April, saw Institute members from across the Clogher Valley Area join with Area Executive Member Violet Little for their ACWW ‘Women Walk The World’ event in the grounds of Favour Royal, Aughnacloy. Although a very rainy morning, it didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of the 34 resilient ladies taking part and an enjoyable walk was had by all! Afterwards they were treated to a lovely brunch provided by The Diamond Cafe, Aughnacloy.
*Thanks must go to Beryl Boyd of Clogher WI and Evelyn Armstrong of Beragh WI for organising yet another successful walk, and to Hilary for keeping the finances in order! The proceeds of the walk will be used to support the great work carried out by ACWW in helping rural women and their families worldwide.
Members of Downpatrick WI set off on their sponsored walk along the Quoile River on Saturday 30th April. They raised £350 towards the Rural Women in Action Fund.
The G&G ladies walked through the beautiful village of Cullybackey in aid of ACWW recently. We hear it was a sunny day, but quite breezy walking along the river path. The group later visited Toast restaurant for some well earned refreshments. Shout out to local resident James Leslie who was on hand to record this event on camera for the ladies! President Lynda Brooks thanked James and also all the members who supported this walk, including those who were unable to attend but kindly gave donations.
Members from the Moira and Waringstown Institutes joined forces for their ACWW walk around Lurgan Park and Lake.

The Mountnorris members held their sponsored walk in aid of ACWW funds in The Glen at Glenanne. Everyone enjoyed the evening – although the midges were out in strength! After the walk, everyone tucked in to a tasty picnic supper.
It was a bright sunny morning on Saturday 23rd April, as the ladies from Newtownbreda gathered to support ACWW in the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Shaws Bridge! Newtownbreda WI’s International Officer Elizabeth Gowdy told us, “Delicious assorted scones with coffee and tea were professionally delivered by Robin, our personal hotel server. An eye to detail was the order of the day, as the tables were laid to perfection – with even a raspberry topping the little individual ‘milk churn’ fresh cream containers! Altogether delightful! Chatter and laughter soon engulfed our group; it was indeed a happy occasion much enjoyed by all. As ladies left the hotel and strolled down to the Lagan Towpath for a leisurely walk, thoughts were with all the ‘Walk the World’ ladies in many countries worldwide, doing the very same to support the valuable work of ACWW. An excellent effort – and many thanks to all who made it such an enjoyable morning. “
To date, Newtownbreda WI’s efforts have raised £285, with more donations still to come. Well done, ladies!
