The Federation of Women's Institutes of Northern Ireland

Everyday Women of All Ages and Backgrounds

“To unite in promoting any work which makes for the betterment of our homes, and the development and improvement of rural and urban life through social and educational activities.”

Welcome to the Federation of Women’s Institutes of Northern Ireland

Established in 1932 and continually evolving and adapting, WINI is an organisation open to all women where we can share activities and learn together and from each other.
With administrative Headquarters in Belfast and local branches (Institutes) in town and rural locations in each county, WI membership offers many opportunities to meet other supportive women, make lasting friendships, have fun, learn new skills, have new opportunities and experiences and make a difference in the community.
Take that first step to join us by getting in touch and finding your local Institute, where you can be assured of a warm welcome.
Come along and join in the craic!

I am a long-standing member of Derrygonnelly WI. Because of the WI, I have done many things I would never have normally done. I have met and become friends with some of the best women in the land and because of having to share the various roles within our branches and Area, many of our members have shone with their amazing talents and skills. WI is truly a very special organisation.

I am a relative newcomer to WI having joined via an invitation to sing with Quoile Area Choir, initially I declined and then had a change of heart. That was one of the best decisions I ever made. Singing with the choir is terrific and it led me to join Spa WI. I’m not keen on crafting, cooking or baking however I love to write, speak and organise. I make a good committee member and that’s how I am learning about WI.

Having just moved to live in Carrickfergus, I met a lovely lady called Martha who invited me to her WI. This personal invitation, and the warm welcome I received from everyone when I went with her to my first meeting, was why I became a member, just over forty years ago. The opportunity to learn new crafts at One Day Schools and Homecraft Weekends was a great joy, and eventually I gained a Gold Spinning Wheel award.

I am an unclaimed treasure, with a good sense of fun and don’t take myself too seriously. I enjoy crafting, especially sewing, singing with Crumlin WI Choir, drama and the spoken word. I take part in several WI Festivals each year where I enjoy the camaraderie and the opportunity to learn from others.
