Gosford Spring Area Meeting

A very successful Spring Area meeting was held in April in Crozier Hall, Armagh. Chairman Hazel McKee welcomed everyone from the 12 institutes in the area.

New Executive member Lyn Roper was welcomed and at the end of the proceedings she presented outgoing Executive member Carole Baird with flowers and a gift on her retirement.

After the business was concluded Carole presented the trophies to Ann Patton for bowls; Hazel and Nora, 2 of the 3 team from Mountnorris for the Quiz; Kathleen Megaw Rose bowl for competition Tweddlemuff and she also got salver for limerick competition. Carole Baird received a trophy for Scrapbook page.

Federation trophies were presented to Ann Eccleson Jerrettspass for craft and she also got Gold spinning wheel and Pat Harrison won a trophy for humorous verse at Festival of Spoken Word.

Carole Baird presented a salver to be competed for, in the future for the winning entry in W.I. class at the Armagh Show.

The speaker for the evening was Brian Rankin, the Limavady poet who had the audience in laughter with renditions of his poems. He sold books of his poems for the charity Africare which helped children with deformed limbs to lead a normal life.

Votes of thanks were presented for everything. The entertainment was provided by the ladies of Caledon W.I. which was enjoyed by all. Hazel concluded the evening with the singing of Country Woman’s song.
