The WI’s Magnificent Woolly Tractor At Balmoral Show!

Earlier this year some very talented WI craftswomen undertook the unusual and imaginative task of knitting a tractor! The finished work of art then went on display in the WI marquee at Balmoral Show, and it certainly turned a lot of heads! This attention-grabbing piece was a great conversation starter at the Show and was an excellent way to promote the Women’s Institute. Helen Dunlop was Homecraft Chairman at the time of the tractors creation and she expressed her delight with the finished eye-catching design:
“May I start by thanking all the ladies who knitted all the different parts of the tractor. It was a great success with the public, especially the men, who had followed the ladies into the WI marquee with long faces, then they spotted the tractor and out came the phones, photographs taken, and then a good chat with others! One man even felt the tractor all over and dated it 1962, which was correct!
May I also thank all the ladies who knitted the farm animals, they went down a treat, from grandma, mum, dad and even boyfriends buying for their loved ones.
Again many thanks to all, especially the ladies who spent quite a few hours putting the tractor together at the Show.”
