The Bowls Is Back!

The Magazine and Leisure Sub-Committee hosted the Federation Bowls Final in Connor Presbyterian Church, Kells on 25th March 2023.  It was great to be back for the Bowls, particularly after the Pandemic had put a pause on this event since March 2019.  As some normality returned to the world, so too did WI activities and over the past few months, bowlers had been battling it out in their Institute/Area matches.  The best bowlers came forward for the Final, each representing their Area, to be in with a chance of winning the prestigious Milk Marketing Board Salver.

On the day, 19 WI Areas were represented in the Final. Friends and supporters filled the church hall and play soon got under way, with bowlers taking to the mats for the initial head-to-head knockout rounds. Several closely fought matches followed, with a break for lunch in between, and two players prevailed to compete for that ‘WI Bowls Champion’ title – Anne Crozier of Collone WI, representing the Gosford Area and Kate Mark of Myroe WI, representing the Roe Valley Area.

After plenty of stylish play from these two bowlers, it was Anne Crozier of Collone who emerged victorious, with Kate Mark of Myroe taking the runner-up spot.

Congratulations to WI Bowls Champion Anne Crozier of Collone WI/Gosford Area (centre) – overall winner of the Bowls Final 2023! Well done also to Kate Mark of Myore WI/Roe Valley Area (left) who placed second overall in the tournament.
