The AGM

The AGM took place on Thursday 31st March 2016 at the Kings Hall Conference Centre in Belfast, with hundreds of WI ladies in attendance. Members enjoyed catching up with friends, reflecting on the WI year so far, listening to the Resolutions and hearing all about the various recent WI activities, events and achievements. Award winners were presented with their trophies and creative work by talented members was on display for all to admire. The guest speaker was Olivia Giles OBE, who delivered an emotive and inspiring presentation. Olivia, a lawyer from Edinburgh, lost both her hands and feet after contracting meningitis in 2002. Surgeons were forced to amputate her limbs in order to save her life. Since her illness, Olivia has been greatly involved in fundraising for meningitis charities. In 2008 she established the charity 500 Miles which helps to rehabilitate amputees in deprived parts of the world. Oliva discussed her charity work and the members listened intently, in awe of her life story. The ladies left for home with much to reflect upon, at the end of this very successful and enjoyable AGM.
