On Saturday 8th March nineteen WI Area bowling teams congregated at Strean Presbyterian Church in Newtownards for the WI Bowls Final. The ladies were fortunate to have Mrs Sheena McCullough as Umpire and a band of willing markers.

The round one winners were Moyallen, Rowallane and Sperrin. A lengthy round two had eight winners namely, Scrabo, Clogher Valley, Slemish, Gosford, Iveagh, Moyallen, Knockagh and Ards. In round three successful teams were Moyallen, Iveagh, Clogher Valley and Slemish. Two hard fought matches in the semi finals saw Edna Sharpe from Moyallen and Stephanie McLean from Clogher go through to the final round. These two ladies fought a spirited match and the winner of the tournament was Edna Sharpe from Moyallen.

Praise and thanks must go to all the competitors who showed true sportsmanship and who were gracious in defeat. Thank you to the spectators for their support, to Portaferry WI for catering and to Strean Presbyterian Church for permitting the use of the building and being so accommodating.

Thanks to Executive Member Ann McCurdy who chaired the proceedings and to Federation Chairman Margaret Collinson, who presented the winner with her trophy. The WI ladies look forward to the 2015 competition, the return of the stalwart and hopefully lots of new players!
