The Arts Drama Festival this year was held in Faughanvale Presbyterian Church Hall, Eglinton, on Saturday 14th of April. The weather couldn’t have been kinder to us – the sun shone brightly as all travelled to the beautiful area in the north west of our province. The view looking down into the valley with the hills in the distance was breathtaking. We all received a warm welcome from Mrs Cochrane and her Girl Guides who did the catering, and they had morning coffee/tea and scones all ready.

Our adjudicator was Kathy Walsh from Bushmills. Kathy is a teacher at Dominican College, Portstewart, and she also adjudicates at the Young Farmers’ Drama Festivals.

Arts Chairman Ethel Simpson welcomed all and the drama unfurled. We had four sketches in the first part of the day. It began with Eglinton WI, who entered the Novice Section. Their sketch was entitled: ‘A Walk in the Park’, written and produced by Beverly Simpson. Desertcreat WI’s sketch was ‘An Interview with Mrs. Black’, their producer was Maureen Steele-Graham. Kells & Connor WI’s sketch was called ‘Country Store’, and the producer of which was Marie Mewha. Muckamore WI’s play, ‘Blossom’s Bloomers’, was written and produced by Elizabeth Gray.

A delicious lunch was served by Faughanvale Girl Guides.

Members who were at the Drama Festival appreciated the quality and time spent rehearsing these sketches/plays – we have a wealth of talent in drama! Kathy Walsh said she was delighted to give up her Saturday to come to our festival, and said all were very enjoyable and entertaining. Our Federation Chairman, Ethel Patterson, graciously presented the prizes, which were as follows:
