Erne Area Meeting 3rd May 2017

Erne Area Chairman and President of Lisnaskea W.I. Mrs Betty Birney welcomed  our Federation President Lady Anthony Hamilton, accompanied by her husband Lord Anthony; Federation Chairman Elizabeth Warden, on her first official visit to the Erne Area; Erne Executive Member Norma Heap; distinguished gentlemen speakers, Dean Kenny Hall and Monsignor Peter O’Reilly and a great number of Erne Area members to the Area Meeting held in the Archdale Hall, Lisnaskea on Wednesday 3rd May.

A very enjoyable evening followed with Greetings from both our Federation President and our Chairman, enjoyable reports read by the secretaries of the nine branches within the Area and the report from the Executive Member on the Federation News.

Federation Chairman Elizabeth presented the Erne Area Bowls Winner, Anna Marshall, Kesh W.I. with the Betty Birney Bowls Trophy, Elizabeth also presented the Erne Area Quiz Competition winners, again Kesh W.I., Sylvia Johnston received the Angela Jardine Silver Salver on behalf of the team, herself, Pat Hey and Vera Hamilton.

Venerable speakers, Dean Kenny Hall and Monsignor Peter O’Reilly;  both arrived in Enniskillen in 2010, both now responsible for parishes within the county town, both next door neighbours, both with totally different backgrounds but with one shared goal – ‘to create a community’  with the support of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth!!  A simply marvellous talk by these two spiritual leaders was much enjoyed by everyone.

Rhoda Farrelly, Irvinestown W.I. delivered eloquently the Vote of Thanks to the Speakers, seconded by Hazel Thompson, Kesh W.I.

The Lisnaskea members served a delicious supper which was followed by the entertainment for the evening performed by members of Tamlaght W.I., again enjoyed by everyone present.  Stella Talbot, Newtownbutler W.I. related the General Vote of Thanks. Area Chairman Betty Birney thanked the members of Lisnaskea for their invaluable assistance in making the meeting a success, she also thanked Lady Anthony, Elizabeth, Norma, the Guest Speakers, Tamlaght members and everyone for their attendance before wishing everyone a safe journey home.  The singing of The Countrywomen’s Song brought a very enjoyable to a close.
