Gosford Area Spring Meeting
The Spring Area meeting of Gosford area was held recently in Armagh. The chairman Mrs Sylvia Marshall, Maytown W.I. welcomed executive member Carole Baird and everyone from all 12 Institutes in the area.
Reports were delivered by Carole for Executive and Arts plus a brief report from Homecraft, International and Balmoral. Edith Mc Adams, Home and Garden, and Lynd Roper, Magazine. Liz Nicholls was also there from Arts. Six Institutes gave their reports before awards were presented by Carole Baird to Ann Patton, Collone for Bowls, Nora McKee and Hazel McKee, Mountnorris for Quiz. The Gosford Rose Bowl for competition, Sandwich cake to Daphne McCammon Glenanne, Agnes Garrity Salver to Richhill won by Maureen Doyle, Elizabeth McHugh trophy for scrapbook page to Jerrettspass compiled by Helen Patterson and Joan McClenaghan. Peggy Bloomer, Caladon WI, received a ribbon for craft.
The excellent guest speakers were Mrs Kerry Weir and Mrs June Andrews who showed photographs of children in Uganda who had received dresses the ladies of the area had made last year. They also gave an insight into work the Fields of Life are doing there on an ongoing basis and even provided some singing.
All institutes participated in some way from stewarding, providing and serving a delicious supper, beautiful flowers, entertainment and votes of thanks. Sylvia Gillow concluded the evening by thanking everyone for coming and wishing them a safe journey home and singing the Country Woman’s Song.
