Showcase of WI Craftwork for the Queen of Malaysia

It was a great honour for the Federation to receive an invitation to attend an afternoon with Her Majesty Queen Azizah of Malaysia on Wednesday 11th December 2019 at ACWW Central Office in London, on her official state visit to the UK.  Federation Chairman Collette Craig and Federation Vice-Chairman Edwina Marr went along and were able to showcase a selection of crafts from their fellow WI members in Northern Ireland.

Homecraft Sub-Committee Chairman Sophia Maybin helped to gather a selection of items from very talented ladies across the province in preparation for Collette and Edwina’s trip, and off they set, London bound.  Queen Azizah was most impressed with the craftwork showcase.  A particular highlight was when the Queen and her sister-in-law wanted to keep Sophia’s macramé bag and after a quick phone call to Sophia back home she kindly said “Yes” to the request!  So somewhere in the Royal Palace is a special bag from Broughshane!

The display included a wonderful array of handicrafts – everything from a handmade doll, Limerick lace, a christening gown and knitted tea cosies, to sprigging work and assisi and much, much more!

Many thanks to the following talented ladies for their contribution to the craft showcase.  Each lady received a certificate in recognition of this endeavour.  Also listed are the many wonderful items they donated for the display:
