WI Members Supporting ACWW’s ‘Women Walk the World’ Campaign 2019

Women Walking Worldwide in aid of ACWW!

The Associated Country Women of the World (ACWW) held its international Women Walk the World Day on Monday 29th April 2019. On days in and around this special date, a number of WI Areas and Institutes took part in sponsored walks at various beauty spots across the province to raise money for this very worthwhile cause. ACWW offers support, friendship and practical help to improve the lives of women and their families, empowering communities around the world. Women Walk the World is a global event and the WI ladies were proud to get involved. Well done to all the WI members who participated and supported this event, a selection of whom are featured here:

 

Abercorn Area

Ladies from Institutes in the Abercorn Area undertook their sponsored walk around Strabane.

Aghadowey WI

The ladies from the Aghadowey Institute completed their walk around the beautiful local countryside of their lovely town.   There was a great turn out of 25 members and after the walk a delicious, healthy supper was enjoyed in Ballylagan Church Hall.

Ards, Rowallane & Scrabo Areas

Ladies from the Ards, Rowallane and Scrabo Areas joined forces and braved Storm Hannah for their sponsored walk around Crawfordsburn Country Park on Saturday.  Coffee was enjoyed after bracing the weather!

Clogher Valley Area

The Clogher Valley ladies enjoyed the sunny surroundings of Blessingborne Estate in Fivemiletown for their sponsored walk on Easter Saturday.

Cullybackey WI

Members of the Cullybackey Institute embarked on the Millennium Walk in Cullybackey.  A great evening was had by all the walkers, as well as those who stayed behind to make the healthy supper.

Gleno WI

The Gleno ladies had a wee dander around Gleno village, with a visit to the waterfall followed by coffee in The Dairy.  The group raised £157.00 for ACWW.

Killyman WI
Members of the Killyman Institute enjoyed a walk among the bluebells in Dungannon Park, followed by a welcome coffee stop at The Linen Green, Moygashel.

Lagan Area

Ladies from various Institutes in the Lagan Area gathered for their sponsored walk in the picturesque surroundings of Sir Thomas and Lady Dixon Park, Belfast. Their enjoyable stroll was followed by a very welcome cup of tea/coffee! The group raised a sum of £185 in aid of ACWW.

Muckamore WI

Members of the Muckamore Institute met at Clotworthy House and embarked on their sponsored walk around the picturesque grounds of Antrim Castle Gardens.

Newtownbreda WI

The members of the Newtownbreda Institute strolled around Malone House, enjoying the surrounding parkland, meadows and woodland, with superb views of the Lagan Valley.  After the circuit was completed, the group returned to Malone House, where freshly made scones and coffee awaited them. As everyone chatted and relaxed, a wedding party arrived at the venue and the ladies admired the vintage car, bridesmaids and beautiful bride. What a delight to round off a great morning!  To date, the Newtownbreda walkers have collected £260 towards ACWW.

Pomeroy WI

The members of the Pomeroy Institute enjoyed their sponsored ACWW walk (accompanied by some of their canine friends) around the beautiful scenery of Pomeroy Forest.

Quoile Area

Ladies from Institutes in the Quoile Area embarked on their sponsored walk around Delamont Country Park, Downpatrick.  Executive Member Edwina Marr would like to thank everyone for their support on the day and for their donations to ACWW.

Riada Area

The members of Institutes in the Riada Area headed to the seaside for their sponsored walk, taking in the surroundings of Portrush on a lovely sunny evening.  Everyone later enjoyed supper in the town.  The ladies raised £160 in aid of ACWW.

Templepatrick WI

 

The ladies of the Templepatrick Institute enjoyed a pleasant stroll around Antrim Castle Gardens for their sponsored walk in aid of ACWW.

Waringstown WI/Iveagh Area

Twenty-one ladies plus one husband enjoyed a lovely walk around Lurgan Park for the annual Waringstown WI/Iveagh Area sponsored walk in aid of ACWW.  This was followed, of course, by great fellowship and chat over coffee and scones in Brownlow House.
