Seaforde Women’s Institute – June 0uting 2019
Twenty six Seaforde ladies and friends went to Forde’s Estate for an evening outing. Mathew and his mother Lady Anthea Forde took us on a tour around the gardens explaining some of the plants and trees growing there, their history and provenance. These included a tree which Mathew’s great-grandfather had brought back from the Crimean War, two very old yew trees, a handkerchief tree and two very large Californian Redwoods. After a photo call we headed into the Garden House Café for a delicious fork supper and lots of chat. After our President, Jenny, thanked everyone for coming, especially our visitors, and a short bit of business, Mathew enthralled us with the history of the demesne and the village of Seaforde. Lorraine Bothwell gave a vote of thanks to Mathew and also to the ladies who provided the supper.
