The Iveagh Area of the Women’s Institute held their autumn meeting in Dromore First Presbyterian Church on Friday 28th September 2018.
Around 80 members from the local area were greeted by outgoing chairman Rosemary Harbinson from Rathfriland WI.
Federation Representative, Sandra Ledlie told us of the success of local institutes at the Castlewellan Show, Banbridge Show and Lurgan Show during the summer.
Sub committee reports were presented by Barbara Moore, Balmoral committee; Iris Megaw, Homecraft committee; Sandra Ledlie, Home and Gardens committee; Jennifer Taylor, International committee and Ada Elliott, Magazine and Leisure committee.
Institute reports were read by Moira WI, Loughbrickland WI, Rathfriland WI, St John’s WI and Waringstown WI.
Our speaker was Isobel Anderson, a blue badge tour guide..
Our competition for a poem entitled “My favourite place in Northern Ireland” was won by Frances Cotney from St John’s WI. Her favourite place being Slieve Croob.
The evening ended with the singing of the Country Woman’s Song.
