WI IVEAGH AREA.

The Iveagh Area of the woman’s institute held their spring meeting in Waringstown Primary school on Friday 26th April 2019. All area institutes were represented and around 90 members came together to renew old friendships and meet new members  who have joined.

Chairperson Linda Ingles welcomed everyone and the meeting got underway with institute reports from Artana, Ballievey Closkelt Dollingstown, and Fourtowns.

Reports were also read from subcommittee groups, Barbara Moore for Balmoral, Iris Megaw for home craft, Sandra ledlie for home and garden, Jennifer Taylor for international and Ada Elliot for magazine and leisure.

Our speaker for the evening was Geraldine Foley a very well-travelled lady.

Geraldine with her partner Peter gave up the normal lifestyle and built a boat whereupon they have travelled all over the world. she gave us a very interesting insight into the life upon water twenty-four seven. lots of beautiful scenery and wildlife to experience, but then there were the days of loneliness, broken equipment, rough seas, little food   a true mix of good and bad.

A member from Closkelt thanked Geraldine for her insight into another world. The competition for the night was “a covered coat hanger”. Kathleen Moore from Ballievey won the competition with a very detailed and pretty coat hanger. The sales table was looked after by Fourtowns WI.  Floral displays were provided by Artana and Waringstown WI provided delicious supper.

After supper, a grand number of awards were given out to various members of the WI on the beautiful craft work completed. To finish our evening, we all enjoyed a very entertaining sketch done by the ladies of Ballievey WI. The general vote of thanks was given by member from Dollingstown WI and we ended the evening by singing the Country Woman’s Song.
