The May meeting of Annalong WI got off to a brisk start with members appreciating the dry weather during their walk with a difference  raising funds for ACWW. A walking treasure hunt had been compiled in verse for members to use their observational skills to hunt out and identify the correct answers to the questions while enjoying a stroll through the village and round the picturesque harbour and mill. On return to the hall members enjoyed partaking of a magnificent “Pot Luck” spread while eagerly awaiting the answers to the quiz and wondering who had won. The adjudicator was very firm – answers had to be completely correct – no shortcuts or abbreviations accepted! It was a close result but the overall winner was June Stevenson with runners up Olive McCullough and Patricia Holman. Many thanks to Shona for contributing her time and skills compiling the ” hunt” for us to enjoy. Money raised was contributed to WI ACWW Women Walk the World campaign helping to raise finances for women and families worldwide who are less fortunate than ourselves.
This months competition was for “A Bit of Bling” and was won by Charlotte Campbell.  Birthday girl for the month of May was Ann Wright, Anniversary girl Charlotte Campbell. As no monthly meetings are held over the summer months the Birthday girls for June, July and August  were Gillian Hanna, Yvonne Adams and Olive Hanna respectively while the monthly Anniversary gifts went to Sylvia McConnell,  Evelyn Trimble and Sylvia Newell. The monthly raffle also meant several other ladies didn’t go home empty handed on this occasion. As the evening drew to a close President Olive Hanna thanked everyone for attending, contributing to the fundraising and to the supper fare, the tea hostesses  and Shona McConville for compiling the quiz which was so thoroughly enjoyed.
While evening meetings are not held over the summer months the group is still active with a number of ladies attending An Grainan for a weekend of relaxation, education and enjoyment in June. The Day Trip to Ballyduggan pottery, Rushmere shopping and evening meal in Canal Court on the 22nd June still has a few available seats, a great day out for £35. Anyone interested in joining us on the day trip please contact Georgina Rooney, Patricia Holman, Linda Moates or phone 07570806228.
Best wishes to all the members for an enjoyable summer, see you all first Thursday in  September  when any ladies wishing to join us will be made very welcome.
